The specific focus of the featured case study on recent activities of Airbnb in the respective township allows discussion of how the developments are prone to challenge and change the spatial and temporal frames of interaction that tourists have with the actual place of the still segregated part of the city. The findings are contextualized against the background of the history of segregation brought about by colonialism and apartheid, as well as the existing sector of township tourism in general. Based on qualitative research, the study looks into the effects of the peer-to-peer idea behind the economic scheme of Airbnb on the accommodation sector in the township. This chapter engages with the introduction of Airbnb to the South African township of Langa, Cape Town.
